In the Quilting Zone!

20170914_231754
This is finally happening.

And it started happening last night.

It was a day of dining-room table order filling.  Eco Pouches are on their way to the first 100 that ordered, the second 100 will start filling today.  But last night, it was time to take a break and get some pleasure stitching in.

Not on a quilt with a deadline.  Not on a quilt that needed pattern writing – That was already done when we started the Hourglass Leader & Ender Challenge.  This is a finish just for me.  And I have an idea of what I’m going to do with it when it is done, I just have to get it finished.

I am over the moon with this quilt!

Just one simple shape.  Repeated and repeated and repeated, and we get this!  As each color band is revealed as the quilt advances in the machine my eyes just do a happy dance.

Feathers!

I’m quilting with an edge to edge design called Twirly Feathers by  Hermione Agee of Lorien Quilting, Australia.  I’ve been using Hermione’s designs for years and they compliment my quilts so well.

My thread is a pinky-lilac.   It’s got a warmth to it that cream/white/beige just wouldn’t have.  It’s subtle, and I really like it.

I hope to return to this tonight -- it's also another pattern writing day ahead!

I wish I could just continue and quilt all day!

Considering THIS for binding.  FUN!

And while we are in the land of purple – I have this just in from Cathy W who writes:
Bonnie,
I can't thank you enough for all you do, all you teach, all you share.
I'm making a heart quilt for my granddaughter.  The pattern calls for a jelly roll...I have 2 1/2 strips...thanks to you and the scrap users system.

CathyW1

I need to sew flip corners to make it a heart.  Thanks to you I'm using your essential triangle tool and Doug Leko's Simple Folded Corners ruler.  Couldn't have figured it out on my own.  But with your quiltcam...I did it!!!  Instead of using squares and wasting...I'm using strips for the corners.

Here's my block...sew happy!!!

And with the left over triangles of the purple, I'll be doing this...

None of this would have been possible if I haven't been following you for the past 4 short years. ❤️❤️

Bless you and take care.
Keeping your brother in my prayers.

Thank you, Cathy!

I'm loving Doug's ruler for oh, so many things.  I use it to square blocks, I use it to cut squares and rectangles, and of course I love it for trimming corners before using the Essential Triangle Tool to cut triangles the right size and just sew them back on. This is a ruler that lives on my cutting table and I’ve been using it nearly every day.

More rulers are on their way – and the booty rulers I talked about HERE and HERE will also be in stock.

Essential Triangle Tools are now on Sale at $19.99!

More Quiltville Eco-Pouch Sets will be added to the store tomorrow.

  1. I'm really loving your hourglass quilt even though I wasn't following you when it started, it's on my todo list after my railfence checkerboard that I'm doing as my leader elder now. I really love your blog and all the useful things I'm picking up from you I'm also working on wild and goosey at the moment which I'm loving and I've also made your boxy star. Thank you for sharing and all you do to help us .
    Love and quilty hugs

  3. Really love your Hourglass Quilt. Wish I had joined in on this one but I was still working on my Lozenges L&E. I am such a slow quilter!!! Hahaha! Anyway, I've joined in on the current Leader&Ender quilt. Thank you for all you share & do for all of us. Hoping your family fared well with Irma, your friends with Harvey, and your brother with his health. You.Are.Amazing!

  4. A "newish" Quiltvillian, I discoverd you in March of this year after a move to Hopkins MN! Currently employeed as a "Stashbuster", I have quilted through all of the Quilt-Cams making 14 tops since my move. Now becoming a treadleaholic, I am cleaning up a 1950's 15-88 from France with her manual in French, and will be getting a 1912 redeye from my daughter in SoCal. Just completed the flimsy of L/E rail fences that became my main project, thank you for all the designs, suggestions, encouragement and laughs! Now to catch you on a live QuiltCam or maybe a class or retreat!

  5. I enjoyed watching the video, thanks,I have never actually seen a longarm machine at work. I have about 6 quilts that I want to do and as a newby I have not actually gotten one finished yet. But I came up with whatI thought was a great idea. I am making the "H"'s of "H is for Happy" as leaders/enders. So far I have 104 done. Thanks for the idea Bonnie.

  6. Bonnie you teach us so much, and I am so grateful. Even teaching us that even when it takes "years" to complete something we started, "that's OK too". Love the hour glass. I guess I've watched you about 18 mos. or so, but will be glad when there are instructions printed on how to do this one. Machine quilting sort of boggles my mind, hence I am a very slow piecer. Also the word "finish" doesn't seem to fit my mind set too well. I want to do it all, and I am having to learn "I can't". Putting that phrase in my vocabulary is very hard for me. I was raised on 'never say that' or 'believe that'. Thank you again my repetitive thanks for all that you do and my morning sunshine from you each day.
